Will a mobile home "blow away" during a storm/tornado?

There's this awesome mobile home for sale, and I really want it because then I'll finally have a room of my own....and my mother keeps telling me we can't get it because if there's ever a really big storm or tronado, the mobile home will be destroyed first or that the tornado will lift it up and take it away. Is that possible? (Oh, also, we live in midwest with no possobilty of hurricanes)

Will a mobile home "blow away" during a storm/tornado?
i wouldn't buy it go find a real home mobile home lose value real houses hold their value and dont tip over in a tornado
Reply:Mobile (or more properly Manufactured) homes are usually okay so long as they don't get a direct hit from a severe storm like a tornado. It's not as if tornados root around looking for mobile homes to trash, you know. And if you live in an area that is not prone to tornados then it seems you have little to worry about in that regard.
Reply:I would say go get the place. But if you know a bad storm is coming get a motel room for the night
Reply:Mobile homes are required to be tied down. They run steel bands over the steel frame under the house and they are anchored into the ground with long steel rods. If done properly they willl hold the house in place during all but the worst storms. Of course they will not help in a tornado or hurricane. Stick built homes won't stand up to those either.
Reply:They have to have hurricane anchors in the South and probably Tornado anchors in the midwest.
Reply:If it does, you may not be in Kansas any more.
Reply:Listen to your mom. And besides that, have you ever tried to sell a mobile home? They depreciate as fast as cars do. It's not like owning a real house where it will gain in value. They're not very well insulated. And most of all, they're just not a good value or investment for your money.

Most (if not all) mobile home parks require you to have your mobile home strapped or tied down to several anchor points around the perimeter just to keep it from "blowing away". It's not like a house where it's fastened to the ground with a foundation. It's just sitting on top of the ground.
Reply:Mobile homes have the tendancy to be destroyed in direct hit of tornadoes, but houses can be destroyed just as easily if hit directly. The thing about mobile homes is that they do not retain great resale value. A stable house is much better.
Reply:if a tornado doesn't hit i you are ok,

but if one does hit it-kiss it goodbye
