Mobile phone companies in Australia?

What is a good company to get a mobile phone that will allow unlimited text and talk each month (what is the price for this) and also allows me to call to the US?

Mobile phone companies in Australia?
You can choose to either go on prepaid - where you simply buy credit as and when you run out.... or postpaid...aka a plan.

Virgin mobile does a great deal - free text and calls to other Virgin mobile users in Australia. But of course, this only works if you have other friends on the Virgin network.

That said, most of the phone companies are pretty competitive, in terms of rate. I would suggest looking at Virgin, Three and Vodafone.

With regards to calling to the US, I would strongly recommend looking for a calling card as this works out much cheaper than using a landline to dial an overseas number, let alone using a mobile phone!

Hope this helps!
Reply:When I speak to anyone overseas, I use yahoo messenger or ninemsn messenger and you can talk to them for as long as you like. All you both need is a yahoo ID or a ninemsn hotmail ID.

Phone Companies are Telstra, Optus, Virgin, Vodafone, but as to what deals they have, I don't know. check them out on the net re google. www.telstra.com.au and type the rest of them this way also with the .com.au behind the name.
Reply:Optus is the best, followed by vodaphone. I've heard virgin is so-so and believe me Telstra is crap!
Reply:Australian mobile companies are very expensive compared to the U.S. Make sure you compare the cost against global roaming if your current phone company offers it.

Another thing to be aware of is that most Australian mobile companies will expect you to go on a contract for between 6-24 months. The site listed below might help to get an idea of costs.
Reply:pricing structures for mobile phones are completely different between the US and Australia (I discovered this the hard way when i went tot he states) But ultimately the first thing you should know is that without a credit history in this country (min 12 months) you will find it very hard to get a mobile which allows international dialling. I suggest you use skype to call home qand get a prepaid for your local stuff so that you aren't locked into anything too costly.
Reply:Telstra is the main company in Australia, but they are all very similar. Optus gives alot of deals and bonuses, and there is also virgin, vodafone, and so on. Check out their deals and contact details on these webstites to find out what you need, but i would suggest you use any of the ones i suggested, because they are the most trustworthy!! : )

Virgin: http://www.virginmobile.com.au/ (don't just go to virgin.com.au because that is the airline virgin lol )

Vodafone: http://www.vodafone.com.au/

Hope this is helpful!! : )
